Last Will and Estimate

August 25th, 2010

Nope, it’s not a typo! We meant to say Estimate, not testament — because we aren’t talking about the kind of will you need when you die. We’re talking about WILL — the Divine Power of Will, and this Sunday we will be sharing a metaphysical interpretation of the Rich Young Ruler story, along with practical tips to help you boost the estimated value of your choices and decisions so you can master the art of living!

If you want a head start, take a peek at the story, in three versions: Matthew 19:16-22; Mark 10:17-22; and Luke 18:18-25.

Will Power or Won’t Power?

August 1st, 2010

This Sunday, we introduce the next Power in our exploration of the Twelve Powers and how they can help us master the art of living. August is the month for the Power of Will.

The Power of Will is like our internal Director. Think about the incredible number of choices you make every day. Just imagine how powerful you would be if you chose to say “ACTION!” to only the highest and best choices, which would help you live life from the Truth of who you really are! That’s exactly what this month’s series of talks are all about.

This week, Rev. Bil takes a spiritual look at what’s behind our Power of Will, sharing practical techniques to help us choose WILL Power over won’t power!

The “Gold Standard Test” for your spiritual understanding

July 19th, 2010

Last Sunday, we shared the Gold Standard Test as a way to help you use your Divine Power of Understanding from the highest, most elevated level, as a way of assessing your thoughts, intentions, words, and actions. This helps you separate the “real GOLD” from “fool’s gold.” Here is the test:

1. Is this (meaning your idea, thought, emotion, action, words) honoring the Truth of who I am?

2. Is this honoring the Divinity of others?

3. Is this serving me for my absolute highest and best good?

Bonus Question: What would happen if I let this go? For example, anger or resentment I might be holding about something or someone. It glitters — in terms of allowing me to feel self-righteous (I don’t deserve this!), letting me harbor emotions and play with them in my mind, and blame others. (Why do we, in our human ego, seem to enjoy this so much?) It can become addictive! But – it is NOT gold! What if I let it go? What else would I do with the energy; the emotional investment? How would it change me? What affect would it have on others around me?

Answering these questions helps us KNOW, and that’s what the power of Understanding is all about. It’s not always easy – we sometimes fight our Higher Selves! But when we take the huge step forward, pull in the cosmic net and look at what’s there, then have the spiritual courage to choose the higher, Truth-related thoughts, ideas, emotions, and actions – and release the rest – that’s when we really can master the art of living, and walk the spiritual path on practical feet!

All That Glitters . . .gold

July 18th, 2010

As we continue our exploration of the Power of Understanding, Revs. Cher & Bil  look at the things in life (those bright, shiny ego-boosters) which keep us from experiencing the highest and best for us! Take away some powerful, practical techniques to master the art of living in a way you have never done before! (You might want to sneak a peek at Matthew 13:47-50, and Matthew 6:19-20)

What is a Labyrinth — and Why Would I Want to Walk On One?

March 31st, 2010

Walking the labyrinth is more about the journey than the destination (there’s no tricks or traps — we know we are going to get to the center); it is about BEING rather than doing, integrating body, mind and spirit into Oneness.

There is a lot of confusion and misperception out there about labyrinths … so we just wanted to take a moment to clear things up! Here are a few quick facts:

  • Labyrinths have been around for over 4,000 years and are found in just about every major religious tradition in the world.
  • Many people confuse a labyrinth with a maze. There’s a big difference! A maze has dead ends, false turns, and attempts to mislead. A labyrinth on the other hand  has only one path leading to the center and back out again. There are no dead ends and no false trails.
  • When you walk a labyrinth, you follow a path of circular trails that eventually lead you to the center. As you shift your direction, you also shift your awareness from right brain to left brain, creating a sense of receptivity and balance.
  • There is no one right way to walk the labyrinth! Each person’s walk is a personal experience. Some people use the walk for clearing the mind and centering. Others enter with a question or concern. The time in the center can be used for receiving, reflecting, meditating, or praying, as well as discovering your own sacred inner space. What each person receives can be integrated on the walk out. Your walk can be a healing and sometimes very profound experience or it can be just a pleasant walk. Each time is different.
  • Labyrinths are truly sacred places. The design itself is inherently powerful. The space and the experience of walking it are also very sacred and powerful and help us feel a greater sense of Oneness. It is a tool for people of all beliefs to come together for a common spiritual experience.

How to Walk the Labyrinth

There are as many different ways to walk the labyrinth as there are people who walk them. The journey is different for everyone, because each person brings his or her own personal purpose to the labyrinth. You can walk meditatively; you can use it to discover solutions to life situations you are facing; you can walk for inner peace and relaxation; or you can simply use it to access a sense of joy.

As you walk, most people prefer to remain silent, and walk with a calm, relaxed pace. You may want to allow time for personal meditation/relaxation at various stop points along the way, as well as when you arrive at the center. You may notice a heightened awareness through your senses (sounds, scents, tactile). Unexpected emotions or thoughts may arise as you walk; be gentle and kind with yourself, and just “be” with whatever comes up, allowing Spirit to work within you to guide your understanding and wisdom.

A Basic Walking Exercise

Before you begin your walk, think of a question or concern you would like to receive clarity about. Take a few deep  breaths, and clear your mind of conscious thought, then enter the labyrinth.  Walk mindfully through the labyrinth, paying attention to the thoughts and feelings that come up for you. Do not process anything — just notice what you are thinking and experiencing. Pause when you reach the center, and listen to your inner Spirit for answers and insights. When you feel ready, begin your mindful walk out of the labyrinth. Once again,  attention to your emotions and feelings as you walk, and especially as you  emerge from the labyrinth. Celebrate your experience, and if you desire, you may want to spend some time journaling after your walk.

It’s Synchronicity!

September 30th, 2009

By Revs. Bil & Cher Holton

Synchronicity! That’s such a cool concept – but is it a valid principle based on Truth? Not to worry — we aren’t asking you to give it up totally. We just want you to put it in a new context … because we are here to experience incredible events in our life all the time! So instead of assuming it is some mysterious being out there choreographing something special, we encourage you to recognize that when you are at one with your Christ nature, your entire life is just one synchronous event after another! So when something meaningful, that appears to be an incredible coincidence, happens and you are tempted to say, “It’s Synchronicity!” — we invite you GET OVER IT! Instead, try replacing it with the phrase: “I Synchronize!”

Think about the ways we use the phrase synchronize: synchronized diving; synchronized swimming; file synchronizing; synchronize our watches! As you look at these, you’ll notice they all have something in common. You have to make the decision—a choice— to do it, and then you need to take action to create your desired results. The same is true with setting intentions in your life. It doesn’t just happen magically.

We believe life’s synchronicity is the same thing. When you look at the example of Jesus, you realize that the miracles He created were not some coincidental happening that occurred just because He wished it would. Nor were they surprising events. Jesus fully understood all the laws of Nature, and knew how to use Truth Principles in such a way that He could create the outcome He expected. To others it appeared to be synchronicity. Was it synchronicity that created enough food to feed a multitude, from what appeared to be nothing? Was it synchronicity that put Jesus at the pool of Bethesda just as the man who was lame was there? Was it synchronicity that had a donkey exactly where Jesus told His disciples it would be before the triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday? Was it synchronicity that turned water into wine? Of course not. These were all events carefully orchestrated by Jesus. He could have said, “I synchronize!”

So how can we begin to create more and more of these powerful, exciting synchronous events in our life?

1. Prepare yourself for synchronicity to happen.

This means setting your intentions so you live in constant expectation of synchronicity happening. Once you set your intentions, it is also important to prepare yourself by spending quality time in the silence—because synchronicity happens when we are spiritually connected to our Oneness. Going to Headquarters where you strengthen your connection is so important to your receptivity to your inner guidance. It is a chance to align yourself with Truth, and remain tranquil in the midst of whatever the world of outer appearance wants to throw at you.

2. Recognize your Intuition … and Listen to it!

Once we are in tune, we get all kinds of intuitive guidance, leading us to synchronize with life! We just need to pay attention! For example, parking karma is nothing more than being aligned with the traffic flow so you are where a good parking place is at the moment you need it. It’s not that you “create” a parking space at the expense of someone else; it’s that you are in tune with circumstances so your timing is aligned. Voila! There’s the spot!

3. Have the guts to act on it!

It’s one thing to hear that intuition … it’s quite another to act on it! Lots of us suffer from paralysis of analysis! We hear that intuitive guidance, and then we try to second guess it! Or argue with it! OR try to make sense of it! We encourage you to go for it! Follow that urging, and see what happens.

How about you? Are you ready for synchronicity to happen in your life? You will begin to see all kinds of seemingly coincidental events unfolding in front of you, and people and resources will be readily available to you, and you will experience the abundant flow of Spirit in every moment of every day as you walk the spiritual path on practical feet.

Cross My Heart and Hope To … – Part Three

September 23rd, 2009

Part Three (of 3)

These past two weeks, we have explored some dramatic ways to change the way you could complete the phrase, “Cross my heart, and hope to …” We’ve talked about Cross my heart and hope to SEE Truth; and Cross my heart and hope to SPEAK Truth.

This week is our final recommendation … and perhaps the most important of all for our spiritual growth.

Cross my heart and hope to BE Truth:

This means we become one with the Truth of who we are and let our light shine! In other words, we get out of our own way! At a recent Meditation Class we facilitated, we practiced an Art Meditation. The activity asked people to think of an issue they are dealing with in their lives that they’d like Spiritual insight on. Then we go into a meditation, and when they are ready, people get up and select paper and art supplies, then just draw, without really having a plan of what to expect or what it will look like. Following the meditation, people are invited to share their experience if they’d like, as well as describe what showed up on their paper.

What was so neat about what one person in the class shared was that she did not expect this to be a meaningful experience. She was really skeptical. However, to her credit, she decided to go ahead and do it with an open mind and see what happened. As she began, she came up with a drawing, but it didn’t feel right, so she grabbed another piece of paper and started again — and more ideas and thoughts flowed to her, and she did a third drawing which really spoke to her, and brought some amazing insights.

What a perfect example of allowing yourself to BE Truth, whether you actually think it will be helpful or not; regardless of what the world of appearance is saying; regardless of what you feel about it; in spite of what you are hearing from your internal Cynic… just BE Truth, and allow the Christ of you to speak and guide you.

As we learn to “Cross our heart and BE Truth” we cross out error and move one step closer to Enlightenment.

This week, you have incredible adventures just waiting to happen for you … opportunities to grow more into your Christhood … opportunities to move further along on that incredible journey of your own spiritual growth and development.  So we encourage you to Cross Your Heart and Hope to — no, we want you to KNOW that you will —

  • See Truth,
  • Speak Truth, and
  • Be Truth. .. and let your light shine —

So you can experience the joy of enlightenment as you walk the spiritual path on practical feet.

Cross My Heart and Hope To … – Part Two

September 16th, 2009

Part Two (of 3)

In this three-part series, we are exploring ways to help you with your spiritual growth as you become aware of what you saying. The example we’re using is the phrase, “Cross my heart and hope to…” We certainly don’t want to say “die!” Not what we hope for, if we are living life from the Truth of who we are!

Last week, we completed the phrase by saying, “Cross my heart and hope to SEE Truth!” This week, we have our second suggestion:

Cross my heart and hope to SPEAK Truth!

What this means is becoming acutely aware of what you are saying. We recognize the power of the spoken word, so even those of us who are inherently optimistic and positive must become conscious of what we are saying. For example, one of our favorite recommendations is to switch the phrase “I have to…” to “I get to…” It makes such a difference in Consciousness, and in the energy we feel!

This week, let’s look at two ways we use our words that can have a dramatic impact on our Spiritual journey and our human experience: Denials and Affirmations.

Denials are simply our way of crossing out error by refusing to give power to anything not in alignment with Truth. We aren’t saying it doesn’t exist. Goodness knows, if you have a fever and are coughing, your human self is definitely experiencing a health challenge. And if you have too  much month at the end of your money, your human self is experiencing a situation of lack.

But the effect of these experiences is where we can claim Truth! We can deny any power to them by simply stating: “You have no power over me!” When we experience anything out of Truth, simply proclaim, “I refuse to give you any power!”

When someone is speaking angrily or negatively to us, we can claim (to ourselves—not necessarily out loud!) “Your attitude has no power over my attitude.”

Then we want to follow that denial up with a strong affirmation of Truth. For example, we may say,  “I am one with God, and I am filled with radiant health and energy!” Or “I am one with /Divine Substance, and have plenty to share and spare.” Or  “I am filled with joy and a zest for living.”

And remember, we aren’t practicing magic here. Things do not become true because we affirm them — we affirm them because they are Truth!

As we learn to “Cross our heart and SPEAK Truth” we cross out error and move one step closer to Enlightenment. This week, as you continue to see beyond the appearance and SEE Truth, add a new adventure to your experience. Begin paying attention to the words you use, and be sure that you SPEAK Truth. Become aware of the different this makes in what you experience!

Next week, learn the third – and most important – recommendation for completing the phrase, “Cross my heart and hope to…”

Cross My Heart and Hope To … – Part One

September 9th, 2009

Part One (of 3)

How many times have you heard someone say, “Cross my heart and hope to die!” It is used to make it real clear that what the person is saying is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! But wow! It is really a terrible affirmation! We prefer to finish that statement in a couple of different ways, to help you with your spiritual growth. This week’s article will explore the first way:

Cross my heart and hope to SEE Truth:

What this means is being able to see beyond the world of appearance, and see the Truth of every situation. Have you ever seen one of those Magic Eye posters, the ones that have a 3-D image hidden in an abstract geometric pattern?  They were very popular about ten years ago. When they first came out, we remember seeing one in the lobby area of a business. Both of us stared and stared, seeing nothing. Then someone walked by and told us to change our focus, and look beyond the picture — look through the picture.

We weren’t quite sure what he meant, but as we tried refocusing, all of a sudden, SNAP! It seemed like everything shifted, and there it was — a 3-D picture as sharp and as vivid as you could imagine.

Not everyone can see these 3-D illusions — it takes some effort to move past the appearance of the geometric pattern. That is exactly what is involved as we look beyond the world of appearance to see the vivid Truth.

To the world, there is the appearance of health challenges, but we know the Truth of who we are is absolute health flowing through every cell and atom of our being.

To the world, there is the appearance of lack, but we know the Truth of who we are is abundance and prosperity flowing.

As we cross out error thinking, we begin to stand in the Truth of what we know, and see  beyond that world of appearance…regardless of how much  the world, the media, and other people want to focus on the appearance of things.

As we learn to “Cross our heart and SEE Truth” we cross out error and move one step closer to Enlightenment. This week, practice looking beyond the world of appearance, and seeing Truth.
