Continuing Series: Get Over It!  Drs. Bil & Cher Holton ~ Sanctuary
Get ready to be rocked out of your habitual way of thinking, as Drs. Bil & Cher challenge the phrases we say. It's not so much the unanswered questions that keep us in the dark; it's the unquestioned answers! Based on the book Get Over It!  The Truth About What You Say That Just Ain't So! (by Dr. Paul Hasselbeck and Dr. Bil Holton), this series will  take a look at some of the phrases we use that are not really grounded in Truth. You'll not only learn the dangers of the phrase—you will receive a new replacement phrase that supports the Truth of who we are: Divine beings having a human experience! This series will intrigue you, challenge you, and change you at a core level, so you can truly experience the life of abundance Jesus talked about!

This week's phrase: "Be Careful What You Pray For"

To prepare for this week’s Truth Lesson, repeat this affirmation several times daily: I pray from the awareness of my Oneness. I am at peace.

Special Music: This week, Josh Stallings will share his piano talents with us.

Congregational Update Meeting ~ 1:00 p.m., Sanctuary: Grab some lunch following the service, then come back to join us for a congregational quarterly update of USLC. The meeting will last approximately an hour, and you will received a financial update, Ministries information, learn about our upcoming growth strategies, and have an opportunity to ask questions. We plan this to be an informative and inspirational meeting!

picBook of the Month: Get Over It: The Truth About What You Know That Just Ain't So! ~ by Paul Hasselbeck and Bil Holton

This is the book that is the basis for the Truth Talk series this month, and it is a "must read" for every Truth student. This incredible book completely shatters the validity of the phrases we use to express our spirituality. Get ready to transform your thinking — and speaking — as these authors lead you on an enjoyable and revealing search for the real Truth in the words we say.

Availble in our bookstore, on site and on-line!

Join us for spiritual growth, life enrichment, and fellowship!

Unity Spiritual Life Center is located at 2604-H Carver Street, 27705 (From I-85, take Guess Road exit (#175). Turn right at the second light, onto Carver. The church is in a small business park on your left, about a tenth of a mile. You will see our banner at the entrance.)

(Child Care and Y.O.U. class available during service, in the Education Center)

Welcome to our new nursery leader: Emily Callahan, who will be handling our nursery every Sunday from 10:00 - 12:00.

Emily is a nursing student at UNC-Chapel Hill, and works in the infant intensive care unit at Duke Hospital. We are delighted to welcome her to our USLC family!

We look forward to seeing you there!!

September 20-21, 2008 ~ Visit by one of our Field Licensing Mentors!

As you know, we as a Center have been accepted into the Field Licensing Program, as our Spiritual Leaders participate in the 4-year process of becoming Ordained Unity Ministers. Each of our leaders has been assigned a mentor, who works with them during this 4-year process. Each mentor will visit our Center twice during this 4-year period, to experience our community, meet with Board members and congregants, and see what is happening face-to-face. We are excited to host a visit from Dr. Cher's mentor, Rev. Denese Schellink, from Davis, California, in September. Our hospitality team is already planning a pot luck for that Sunday, and Synchronicity is preparing an incredible music performance — so mark your calendar to be sure you don't miss this wonderful day!

September 20-21, 2008 ~ CenterFest!

For the first time, USLC is planning to sponsor a booth CenterFest. This year, the Durham Arts Council celebrates the 35th Annual CenterFest Arts Festival. CenterFest is the longest running juried outdoor arts festival in North Carolina and the largest arts and community festival in Durham. We plan to create a booth that will create an awareness of USLC in the community, and introduce people to the Unity perspective. If you would like to be a part, there are several ways: sign up as a vounteer to work a 2-hour shift at the booth; sponsor one of the give-aways we are creating; provide home-baked goods to sell at the booth; assist with set-up/clean up; contribute ideas for the booth; etc. Contact one of co-chairs for more information or to volunteer: Dr. Bil Holton and Carmen Ingersoll.

Our YOU and Director Shawna Donaldson thank you for your generous support of the Food Drive project. We as a Center donated 238 pounds of food! Kids Summer Stock is a community-wide food and funds drive to support nearly 250,000 children who will not have access to free and reduced school meals while school is out for summer vacation. During the summertime, Food Bank partner agencies report an increase in the number of parents and grandparents seeking food assistance for their families. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the children and families served by the Food Bank.

Drive by 4112 Guess Road and take a look! And be sure to send blessings to the site!

Please continue to 7-up  as we continue with our Capital Consciousness Campaign (also known as C-cubed!). We invite you to be a part of our new adventure, as we put our Consciousness behind our Capital and move forward on our journey!

Unity Spiritual Life Center (USLC) is in the process of purchasing an incredible piece of property located at 4112 Guess Road. We have begun our journey toward creating our own space for our ministry! As we all continue to “7-up” (visualizing the essence of our new space), we invite you to move with us to the next phase. Our newest statement of intention is:

“We now manifest Abundant Financial Flow to pay for this property and prepare it for our building, with speed, ease, comfort, and joy!”

We invite you to be a part of our Capital Consciousness Campaign (C-3 or “C-cubed”) to raise funds to pay for the purchase within three years, as we raise our consciousness with this affirmation and put practical feet on our Truth Principles. We value and affirm your support of this effort.

We know that we are one with Divine Substance, and affirm with absoloute assurance that the funds necessary for this next phase of our growth are flowing to us. To help us with our planning and to ensure sound fiscal responsiblity, we are giving our members and friends the opportunity to participate in our C-3 efforts by sharing their intentions for support. We welcome any and all gifts, and say thank you in advance for your loving and committed support of USLC.

One reason this campaign is so important is to hold in our consciousness that  USLC must continue to meet the regular monthly operating expenses of our current location. Your financial support to C-3 is separate and in addition to your current giving, which is why we are creating this special focus. There are a multitiude of ways you can contribute, including discovering hidden assets you have that may surprise you! Please contact either Jim Kimbrough, Judy Strickland, or Dr. Bil Holton to schedule a time to sit down and discuss your potential opportunities, and learn the amazing value you have in your possession right now. It will be ourpleasure to help you expand your awareness of your own prosperity as you contribute to the growth of USLC in the process!

If you have any questions or issues you wish to discuss about C-3, please feel free to contact one of the members of the C-3 Committee listed below.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

Immediate Opportunities to Share Your Gifts and Talents:

At USLC, we welcome volunteers as a part of our 12 Ministries. Check out the information about these ministries, and see where you would like to plug in!

Who do you know who loves to play the piano, and would be interested in serving as a pianist for our church? (Shayne is doing a masterful job in this role, but she deserves an opportunity to actually sing with the choir!) We would love to have someone volunteer to help with this role ... However, we are also considering the option of hiring a pianist to fill this important spot. If you know someone who might be interested, please contact Debbie Bennett or one of our Spiritual Leaders with the information!

Volunteers to teach once a month for our Y.O.U. Group. We have wonderful curriculum that is Unity-based, and contains everything you need in order to present a powerful lesson for our Y.O.U.s. These young people represent the future of our church, and deserve our support. Please see either Shawna Donaldson (our Director of Youth & Family Ministry) or one of our Spiritual Leaders to talk about how you can help us create a learning environment that teaches our youth Unity Principles, as they grow into our next-generation of leaders!

Did You Know You Could Donate to USLC Online?

If you want to continue to experience the spiritual benefits of your giving habits even when you are not at our service — or if you just want to make it easy for yourself, you may want to consider using our online donation system. You can even print a receipt, which you can bring with you to put in th eoffering bag during our Prosperity Celebration, if you like.

We also have an automatic monthly giving system, set up for purposeful tithing ~ and perfect for people who want to be consistent in their giving regardless of their schedule.  Forms are available in the church sanctuary, or by contacting us with a request. USLC is pleased to accept credit and debit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express!

Do You Desire Prayer Support?

We encourage you to complete a Prayer Request form, and place it in our Prayer Box in the Fillmore Chapel. Every Sunday morning, between 10:00 and 10:30, we meet for prayer and meditation, and include all prayers (confidentially) which are in the Prayer Box.

We also encourage you to contact Silent Unity, where prayer support is available 24/7/365. You can reach Silent Unity by calling 1.800.NOWPRAY (669.7729) or going to their website, http://www.unityonline.org/pray_submitprayerrequest.htm

YOU's "Change for Change" Project:

Thanks to all of you who continue to drop your spare change in our youth’s  on-going “Change for Change” fund raiser. If everybody just empties their pockets each Sunday into the bottle, it will continue to grow quickly … and we can support our youth in their service projects! The box is in the Education Center ~ just ask any of the youth if you have questions!

Special Services Your Spiritual Leaders Can Provide:

Drs. Bil & Cher Holton are excited to be a part of such a wonderful spiritual community! In addition to the work they do on a regular basis with our church, they also offer these special services on request:
Visitation – home or hospital visitation (offered freely and lovingly)
